OUR PROGRAMS

YOCDEF pursues its mandate through 3 strategic programs including Health Rights Documentation and Advocacy (HRDA), Economic Empowerment Program and Community Awareness Program

The Health Rights Documentation and Advocacy Program(HRDA)

Documents, influences and advocates for health rights and health law policies, plans, laws and best practices that impact and improve the social justice in health and access to health care services in sexual reproductive health rights (SRHR), HIV/AIDS, mental health and violence against children (VAC).

Through community empowerment, we mobilize communities to enhance participation and accountability, working with community networks such as PLHIV, giving technical support on use of Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA) to community based organizations (CBOs) and support existing government structures Health Unit Management Committees (HUMCs) and Village Health Teams (VHTs).This we conduct Participatory Action Research (PAR) which has greatly contributed to generating evidence for advocacy and identification of cases for litigation. The aforementioned are employed ensure to bridge the gap between grass root communities(rights holders) and authorities (duty bearers) for improved health standards of vulnerable populations.

The Economic Empowerment Program (EEP)

The major focus is to invest in women’s economic empowerment, sets a direct path towards gender equality, poverty eradication and inclusive economic growth. It involves providing people, usually disadvantaged young women and men, with the education, training and life skills that they need to find a job, earn an income and become self-sustaining.

In this YOCDEF fosters sustainable support like microloans, savings knowledge, vocational and technical skills training, financial literacy and market/value chain development. We empower individuals to start their own businesses, learn and practice savings habits, and improve their incomes, all of which enables them to better provide for their families. We work with partners to deliver projects that ensure clear pathways for youths and children to complete school. It includes providing scholarships to our brightest and most vulnerable students, providing school materials, offering carrier and stay in school guidance.

The Community Awareness Program (CAP)

Undertakes health awareness to set important precedents on the spread and prevention of HIV/AIDS promote SRHR and mental health. The program also involves advocacy for the cases, research and documentation, media involvement in collaboration with the other programs. It works hand in hand with various stakeholders including but not limited to the duty bearers, ministry of health, academia and other health practitioners.
